Hold on... what???

So I logged in this morning to see that this photo:

Dark Side by Chikrata

Has been given a DD!! I honestly never thought I'd get one of those, so I am truly stunned. Thank you to anyone who suggested and to Kaz-D for featuring it! I'm a very happy guy this morning!

As many of you have seen I'm not as active here as I once was, but hopefully that's starting to change as I come back, and hopefully more to come in the very near future. Thanks to everyone who's stuck with me for my rather extended hiatus :) .

Where am I?

1 min read
Hi everyone,

First off I'd like to confirm that I'm still here, and am still out taking photos. Apologies that I'm not active on here at all recently. I've been very busy with various things over the past few months, and really haven't had time to get on here and respond to anything. This does not mean I'm leaving though! I will try to get back on here a lot more in the next few days, and should have new uploads up soon. I currently have over 1000 comments and nearly 700 deviations to look at, so please bear with me as I catch up!

Many more up-to-date pieces can be found on my Facebook page here: www.facebook.com/lbraileyphotography

Or on my website here: www.lawriebrailey.co.uk

Thanks for bearing with me, and I hope to speak to you soon,

Lawrie.

Hi everyone,

Hope you're all well, and again apologies for the lack of activity on here recently. I'm just reaching the end of the year though, so I should be free soon!

This is just a quick post to ask a favour from you all. As you all know, I entered (after much cajoling) the Marwell Wildlife Photographic competition last year, and was lucky enough to win one of the categories. This years contest has just been announced, and whilst I still have a long time before deadline day, I'm really struggling working out which five pieces to submit. I have already had suggestions for www.lawriebrailey.co.uk/Pages/… and www.lawriebrailey.co.uk/Pages/…, but I would love to see what you think would be my five strongest images to enter. These have to be taken at Marwell, and must be from the last year, so please help!

If you have a bit of free time, please go to www.lawriebrailey.co.uk/Pages/… and post links (or names) to the 5 images you think would work best. It would really help! ^^

Thanks all,

Lawrie.

Update

2 min read
Is is just me or do I have a lot of journals called 'update'?

Hi everyone.. just to let you know a few things and to keep you updated on the situation a bit. Well the 300mm lens is back with me. I sent it off for repair, and Nikon managed to get it back to be in about a week and a half which wasn't bad at all. As you can see it's already out and in use again along with the 1.4 teleconverter and AF-S 105mm VR macro lens that I finally decided to add to my permanent kit bag.

As for Marwell news, Irina (female Snow Leopard) gave birth on Sunday 21st to three beautiful cubs. All is going well, and plans are to have them inoculated and ready for the outside world in 12 weeks time. I'll keep you posted on that.

As for me.. I'm currently up to my neck in work, so can't really get on to answer much recently. I apologise for that, but will answer EVERYTHING when I get it all handed in. I promise!

And finally, Marwell recently asked to use two of my images as adoption photos for the new Snow Leopard adoption scheme, so if you ever wanted to adopt Indeever or Irina (Unfortunately you can't take them home. Believe me I've tried) then you may end up with one of my prints in your pack :)

Thanks all, and sorry this is a short one. I'm currently mid-way through an essay in the university library, but wanted to get that last journal off the front page!

Oh, and for anyone who wants to look (I've had a few requests)  prints are available online at www.lawriebrailey.co.uk so please help me to keep shooting!

Take care,

Lawrie.

Edit - Here's a photo of the inside of my lens. Not for the faint of heart. You don't see the scratches a much in the photo, but you can see the focusing element quite clearly free floating...

Hey everyone, I hoped to come back to you with better news than this but unfortunately I can't. I was at Marwell today and managed to completely total my pride and joy 300mm lens. It's a complete write off and it will be months before I can replace it. Basically I was as the lemur enclosure with the 300mm on the camera (working perfectly). I took it off and put it carefully on the ground so I could change to my 50mm as they were close. When I picked it up again to switch back I heard a thunk from inside the lens. I turned it over to find the middle focusing element had come loose and was now moving freely inside the barrel. Now this lens is covered in a thick metal ring, which hit both elements adjacent to it, scratching them to hell and rendering them useless.
Basically it's gone.. it's not a fixable issue and needs a complete replacement :(

So yeah... I can't afford to replace it, my insurance on it has just ironically run out and I'm feeling pretty low right now..

Just thought you all needed to know. Sorry for the forthcoming lack of images.

Lawrie.
